How To Wear That Seventies Fashion Trend

by Sproosy

The ‘70s continue to be a huge fashion trend this season. The outfits from a decade past are still making their mark in Fall 2015 and aren't likely to fade into Spring also. So how do you make this tricky retro trend work in your closet if Bohemian isn't a part of your classic tendencies?  And how do you incorporate key pieces into your style repertoire without looking like you are in fancy dress?! Here are our top tips to help you rock this trend.

Limit yourself to one throwback piece per outfit to avoid looking kitsch. For example try the classic ‘70s A-line skirt with a tucked in classic Tee, simple knit or romantic blouse. Or introduce the floral trend with a midi skirt and offset with a more conservative knit and structured boot.

Hesitant about fringing? Then fringe through accessories. Try tassel earrings or necklace or choose a bag with fringing. This is a perfect way to test the trend without commitment.

Wear the must-have trouser shape – the wide-leg. It’s all about proportion to make this shape work and not look like a Woodstock throwback. Keep it sleek on top with a structured tee or an elongated tunic. Alternatively opt for the failsafe denim version of the wide leg – the skinny flare.

It’s time to try a jumpsuit! Not only is this a great go-to one piece outfit, there is one for everyone. Jumpsuit shy? Then opt for a darker shade and pair with a blazer to make it look more subtle. Can’t wait to don this key piece? Then opt for a v-neckline in a jewel tone for some bolder seventies fashion style.

Still not sure about the ‘70s fashion vibe? Then opt for boho inspired accessories - skip the flower crown and opt for a headband and loose, layered necklaces instead!
